DESCRIPTION: This is a group of plants belonging
to the Mustard family. It includes vegetables like Broccoli, Brussels
Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collards, Kale, Rutabaga and Turnip.
PROPAGATION: Plant seeds 1/2 in deep. Thin
small plants leaving strongest plants 15 to 18" apart. Seedlings
can tolorate a light frost. Cabbage likes regular watering, full sun
to partial shade. Cabbages is extremely hardy and prefers cooler weather,
cabbage is suited for spring and fall weather it will survive light
frost. It can be grown in regular garden soil that is fertile and enriched
with humus, a rich soil is key to a good harvest. Gardeners usually
plant 2 or 3 varieties that mature in sequence to provide a longer harvest.
Apply a balanced organic fertilizer every 2-3 weeks.
HARVESTING: Cabbage should be ready in 80
to 180 days from planting of seeds. Harvest cabbage when heads form
and feel firm.. Cabbage heads will split if over watered or not harvested
in time.
